SACRAMENTO (August 9, 2012) - Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) participated this afternoon in an informational hearing, Assembly Budget Subcommittee 6, where the Department of Finance, Legislative Analyst Office (LAO) and Controller's Office representatives testified in front of Legislators on the special funds and the Department of Parks and Recreation funding scandal.
When giving insight on the Parks situation, the LAO representative reported that they have found "sloppiness" and "confusion" in special funds.
"The time of reckoning has come," said Nielsen. "The situation at Parks is endemic throughout California agencies. Our efforts here cannot end today, it must be sustained and I suggest setting up a joint budget committee with a focused oversight of special funds. I also suggest holding a separate hearing, focused on the Parks department, questioning under oath those responsible for the negligence in that department. "
