Monday, February 11, 2019

Funding to offset property tax revenue loss from recent wildfires passed the Senate today with a vote of 37 to 0. The measure provides $31.3 million annually to Butte and Lake Counties. The Assembly approved the same measure. It now goes to the Governor’s desk for his consideration.

If signed by the Governor, Butte and Lake Counties will receive this funding over the next four years.

Senator Jim Nielsen (R-Tehama), Vice Chair of the Senate Budget & Fiscal Review Committee, issued the following statement:

"With more than 18,000 structures destroyed including 13,972 homes, the people of Butte County have endured so much.

“After three months, thousands of families are displaced. Cleaning crews have arrived to begin the debris removal process from properties.

"This measure will ensure that local governments will be able to continue their services to residents of the affected counties.”
