The Site Project Authority recognized Senator Nielsen in the following Resolution at its October 26, 2022 Board of Directors Meeting
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen has dedicated over 40 years of service to the people of California, in the California State Senate, California State Assembly, California Agriculture Labor Relations Board, and the California Board of Parole and Prison Terms; and
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen has been an unyielding champion for Northern California farms, businesses, and rural communities throughout his tenure as a member of the State Senate and the State Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen has been a tireless advocate for the development of new water storage, water management infrastructure, and watershed protection for the benefit of California’s farms, communities, businesses, and environment; and
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen’s leadership was instrumental in the crafting of the Water Storage Investment Program (WSIP), which dedicated $2.7 billion for investments in water storage projects as part of the Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 (Proposition 1) and;
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen’s diligent and effective advocacy resulted in overwhelming support and passage of Proposition 1 on November 4, 2014, by the voters of California; and
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen played a vital role in supporting the Sites Reservoir Project’s application to the California Water Commission to secure funding from the WSIP program, enabling the Sites Project Authority to ultimately secure $816 million of Proposition 1 funding to advance the Project; and
WHEREAS, Senator Nielsen has been actively engaged in supporting the Sites Project Authority through the development of the Project’s planning, design, environmental review, and permitting efforts; and
WHEREAS, the improvement of water supplies to farms, cities and the environment within the Sacramento Valley and the State of California is vital to the future of our State; and
WHEREAS, Sen. Nielsen’s leadership and steadfast determination to address this critical issue will be a lasting legacy that will significantly benefit future generations of Californians;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Sites Project Authority Board of Directors and Reservoir Committee expresses its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Senator Jim Nielsen for his years of dedicated service to the people of California, for his leadership in advancing the development of water infrastructure throughout California, and for his unwavering support of the Sites Reservoir Project.
