State Senator Jim Nielsen (R-Tehama), who represents the area where the suspect apparently lived and committed many of his crimes, released the following statement following the arrest of the East Area Rapist:

“Like many California residents who lived through this time when these horrific crimes were being committed, Marilyn and I are relieved by the arrest of this serial predator.

“This individual frightened families and communities for more than three decades.

“We thank District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert for her passion, sheer persistence and leadership in solving this case. Her commitment to prioritize cold cases makes our community safer.

“It is through the leadership of District Attorney Schubert and Sheriff Scott Jones that Sacramento residents can be assured they are safer and more protected.”
