(Sacramento) - Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) joined his fellow colleagues in the State Assembly and Senate today in reciting the Oath of Office. The Floor ceremony, which began at noon, officially begins the 2011-2012 Legislative Session. The Assembly also opened an emergency session to deal with California's growing budget deficit, currently $25 billion.
"I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to represent the people of the 2nd District for another term," stated Nielsen. "California faces severe challenges over the next 2 years. We have a $25 billion deficit, which will force this Legislature to make some painful cuts and difficult choices. We must continue to slash spending and end the horrific regulations that are forcing more and more businesses to leave our state. No more procrastination and smoke and mirrors. The time for action is now."
