Nielsen Responds To Governor's Decision To Sign SB 202

Monday, October 10, 2011

SACRAMENTO (October 7, 2011) - Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) issued the following statement today following Governor Brown signing into law Senate Bill (SB) 202, which would undo a bipartisan budget agreement from last year to place a constitutional amendment establishing a strong rainy day fund reserve on the November 2012 election.  The measure will also banish ballot measures qualified by citizen petitions to the November election.

"This is another reason why people cannot trust the governor and why Republicans have no reason to negotiate with the governor and the Democrats, they don't keep their word" said Nielsen. "In the last few years alone there were many instances that the majority party and now this governor have reneged budget agreements and in fact literally have repealed them."

"This is all the more evidence of the absence of trust in your state Legislature, and most bothersome is the fact that through such political scheming the people California are the biggest losers," said Nielsen. "Such a gross manipulation of the peoples' initiative process will not likely stand up to the inevitable legal challenges that will be filed."
