Assemblyman Nielsen (R-Gerber) released the following statement today after a federal judge ruled the voter-approved Proposition 8 unconstitutional.

"I am deeply disappointed that a lone federal judge would disregard the direct vote of the people of California, overturning the lawful Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage.  It is unfortunate that, once again, the rights of the people have been cast aside so that one judge can pursue an activist agenda.  Traditional marriage is a right that should not be redefined. It has always represented a solemn and sacred covenant between one man and one woman.  It is my hope that this misguided ruling will be appealed and eventually overturned."
