In a last minute jam job, education lobbyists distributed proposed language into the state budget that would limit local school districts’ ability to save for a rainy day fund. Despite statewide protest by school officials, Democrat lawmakers passed the measure.
Senator Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) questioned the wisdom of approving this measure.
“I’m astounded. Where did it come from at the last minute, behind closed doors, in the dark of night? Why aren’t we talking about it in a policy committee? I suggest we vote against it.”
“This discourages school districts from being fiscally prudent.”
