(Sacramento) - Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) announced today that the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACU) has designated him as an ACU Conservative in recognition of his consistent support of conservative principles on a wide range of issues during 2012 legislative session.
"I feel honored to be granted this award from an organization which upholds same conservative values that I've been working to defend in the California Legislature," said Nielsen. "Times may change, but we must not forget the values this country was founded upon-conservative values, which when applied correctly lead to individual prosperity and flourishing of society as a whole. I am ever more committed to advocating for the personal and economic freedoms and the rights of hard-working Americans, by encouraging entrepreneurship and creating a friendly business environment, as well as advancing strong family values."
Nielsen received an accumulated score of 95% from the ACU in response to his consistent voting on ACU bills of interest.
"For 40 years ACU has set the gold standard for Congressional ratings, and we are now able to offer that same level of transparent information to the voters of the Golden State so they can hold their elected officials accountable at the state level as well. Conservatives in this year's California Legislature fought for worker's rights, and against union sponsored bills who tried to make it almost impossible for non union businesses to get state contracts," said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas.
Established in 1964, the ACU embodies the views of Americans who are concerned with economic growth through lower taxes and reduced government spending as well as with matters of liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values and national security. ACU first began rating members of Congress on key conservative voting issues in 1971, and since then their ratings system has become an important conservative measuring stick in American politics, and a useful tool to voters.
